About

Massimo Giannoni was born in 1954 Empoli, Tuscany Italy and currently lives and works in Florence. Giannoni has always worked in the traditional medium of oil painting exploring all its aspects, landing into a type of figurative painting defined by one particular technique: thick impastoed paint laid onto an unprimed canvas which gives an almost abstract effect. Viewing Giannoni’s work up close, it becomes almost impossible to read a defined image but as the observer distances from the artwork, the image becomes clear and defined. His artworks represent two different and contrasting spaces; interiors of bookshops and libraries, centres of historic culture where the passage of time is slow, and on the other hand, stock exchange images, where things move at a very fast pace. In both instances time is an essential symbolic element.
