About

Roberta Coni was born in Rome in 1976, where she lives and works. She graduated in 1999 from the Fine Arts Academy of Rome, specializing in painting.  Primarily interested in the human figure, Coni’s technique combines classical method of oil painting with a heavy past made of bitumen, wax and glue.   Since 2009, her artistic research has been geared toward large-scale paintings, in which the face often emerges from the shadows. Her work is characterized by its strong realism while combining rougher materials and brushwork.

In 2011 Coni was selected for the for the Italian Academy Padiglion of the Venice Biennale. She has received numerous awards across the world including the Passion for Freedom Prize for painting; she was also selected for the 4th edition of the Fabbri Prize (2012), for the Lissone Prize (2010) and for the Celeste Prize (2009).
