About

Gianfranco Meggiato was born in Venice in 1963, where he has attended the Istituto Statale d’Arte. At an early age, he exhibited in two collective art exhibitions in 1979 and 1984 at the Galleria Comunale Bevilacqua La Masa in St. Mark Square, Venice. Since 1998 Meggiato has participated in an uninterrupted series of exhibitions, shows and fairs in Italy. Celebrated in Europe, Meggiato has, more recently, been invited to take part to the 54th and the 55th Venice Biennale.

Each of Meggiato’s sculptures is made in keeping with the 16th-century model of the foundry workshop.  Using the ’lost wax’ method, the artist creates sculpture that is preoccupied with void rather than surface.  Air, inside his sculptures, kneads with bronze as to demonstrate that the most important things in life are usually the intangible ones. This space-energy, seeping through rotating artworks, gives them life, beating and breath.
